The first time I read this book I became immersed in the story.  The second time, even knowing how it would end, was no different.  This book grabs your attention from page one and never lets you go.  I could not put this book down even to go to bed.  I would be reading and my eyes would begin to close.  Then a few minutes later I would wake up and realize I had fallen asleep just to do the same again two or three pages later.

Jacque Pierece is just like any other seventeen year old girl, she has had boyfriends who broke her heart and best friends she couldn't live without.  She is sarcastic and comical.  Then you have her best friends Jennifer Adams and Sally Morgan.  Jen is the typical smart alec.  She is witty, clever, and can make any moment unforgettable.  Sally is the girl just trying to keep everyone in check while still throwing out lively comments when deemed appropriate.  And then you have the foreign exchange student, Fane.  He is protective, jealous, and madly in love with Jacque.

I found myself to be jealous on occasion of the relationship Jacque has with Jen and Sally.  Their personalities play off each other so well and there is never a dull moment.  When Jacque receives life changing information her sidekicks are there to reduce tension in the room and make the mood lighter. They are the ultimate friends.

Quinn Loftis allows the reader to get perspective from both sides of the new, budding relationship between Jacque and Fane by changing the narrator from chapter to chapter.  I found this to be a great way to not only get to know both characters, but to see what happened when one of them was not with the other.

This book ends at a great stopping point.  Any further and we wouldn't have Blood Rites.  Overall, this is a great book that looks at the werewolf legends from a different angle.
