About Me

Bookish Diversion, originally Doodle's Book Blog, was created on January 24, 2012. After reading an extraordinary number books in less than a year and not being able to remember what happened in some, Emily decided to turn her love of reading into something productive. Now, she is working on rereading books that she read in 2011 while working in new releases, blog tours, and review requests. Not only does she get a sense of accomplishment and makes her mom happy by doing something besides just reading, she also get to help you, the reader, find books that will help you escape from your reality into an alternate world.

From February/March to December 2013 Bookish Diversion went on and off hiatus to deal with all the big things that were going on in Emily's life...like college graduation, supporting herself financially, moving, and joining the U.S. Army. In October 2013 Emily redesigned her blog to it's current theme and name.

In April 2018, Emily decided to take a stab at blogging once again finally finding downtime from Army Life.

About Me
My name is Emily and I'm a twenty-seven year old WVU graduate currently enlisted in the United States Army.

I love mint chocolate chip ice cream, pepperoni rolls, mac & cheese, chocolate chip waffles, and perogies. I love going to big cities just so I can go to museums and shop. I didn't read when I was growing up because of a bad experience on the bus ride home in third grade. Luckily, I found my way back to books in January of 2011.

I love reading but I have no interest in becoming a writer. I would go as far as to say that writing is my least favorite thing to do. That being said, one of my friends keeps fighting with me about my interest in writing. I'm sure at some point it may happen, but until those characters talk to me I'll stick to my "I hate writing" thoughts.

I graduated from West Virginia University on May 19, 2013 with a BS degree in Exercise Physiology. The time I spent there provided me with a ton of opportunities. I became a certified Aquatic Therapist in May of 2012 and published my first article on aquatic exercise and pregnancy in June of 2012.

When graduation was looming I spent most of my time teaching deep water running classes. All of the class participants asked what I was going to do with the rest of my life after I earned that very expensive piece of paper that said I was knowledgeable in my field. I told them I was joining the military. It's been almost seven years (as of 2018) since I figured out where I wanted to end up.

In November 2013 I went up for Selection for Officer Training School with the U.S. Army and was chosen to attend OCS after completing Basic Training in August 2014. However, In October 2014 I found out I had fractured my pelvis in 3 places and was sent to Advanced Individual Training as an enlisted soldier. In November 2017 I moved to Texas to change my job in the military, however it was during training that I found out I needed to have surgery on my left hip. I'm currently spending my days waiting on orders to my next duty station so I can have that surgery and recover. However, my career goal within the Army is to commission through Army Baylor School of Physical Therapy.

Some random facts about me:
  • I have procured a few nicknames over the years...
    • Doodle: comes from my love of doodling during classes.
    • Kitten: comes from an ex who 1) loved that I loved The Perfect Game by J. Sterling and 2) adopted the nickname after realizing that I am much like a kitten.... curious, adorable, and temperamental if provoked.
  • I had PRK and LASIK eye surgery in June 2012. Yay!! It was the absolute best decision I've made. If you're looking into getting either of the procedures it isn't as bad as the videos portray.
  • Rain, shine, snow, or clouds you will always find a pair of sunglasses on my head... unless I'm in uniform.
  • I'm a girly girl. Glitter and the color pink make me happy.
  • I love wearing eye make-up on but taking it off is a b*tch.
  • I also love when my hair is straightened or curled, but both of those take forever.
  • I love baking. Cookies, pizza, muffins, cake, ect.... and I'm absolutely miserable without an oven.
  • My favorite TV show ever is Gilmore Girls.
  • I have mandatory "gym" time every morning... Yay Army!
  • I would die happy if I see the following bands in concert:
    • Marianas Trench <---- You should check these guys out! My absolute favorite band ever!
    • Go Radio <--- I've seen them live Three times!! They broke up in Dec 2014.
    • Parachute
    • Framing Hanley <--- Broke up mid-2015
    • Jana Kramer
    • We Are The In Crowd <---These guys are amazing!! Just sayin'
    • All Time Low
    • You Me At Six
    • Paradise Fears <--- Shows are amazeballs!!
    • Halsey
    • Kane Brown
  • I had regular movie dates with one of my best Army buds. We used see anywhere from 2-3 movies a month until we switched duty stations and left each other.
  • I watch way too many TV shows: The Vampire Diaries, Parenthood, How I Met Your Mother, Beauty & the Beast, Once Upon A Time & In Wonderland, Revenge, Nashville, Pretty Little Liars, Switched at Birth, One Tree Hill, The Lying Game, Hart of Dixie, Psych, New Girl, Shameless, Seal Team, The Big Bang Theory.
  • Some of my favorite movies include Breakfast at Tiffany's, Alice (the sci-fi take on Alice in Wonderland), The Good Guy, One for the Money, Easy A, Up, My Best Friend's Girl, P.S. I Love You, 21 Jump Street, and The Blindside.
  • I'm a cover whore. If I like the UK or Australian cover better, I will order it before I order the US edition, even if it is more expensive.
  • I love Yankee Candles! Especially Apple Pumpkin...it's like fall in a jar.
  • I was a water aerobics & deep water running instructor! So much fun!!
  • I was a bartender in college.
  • I procrastinate like no other.
  • I love Bath & Body Works! Vanilla Bean Noel is my absolute favorite scent ever, but outside of the holidays I'm in love with Madagascar Vanilla and Beautiful Day.
  • I take bubble baths whenever I can.
  • Alice in Wonderland is by far my favorite book ever.
  • I've lost count of the number of tattoos I have.

I like your blog! Care to connect? I was originally looking for book blogs that also do doodles (I'm not sure if you illustrate) but I like what I saw so far. :)

I don't really illustrate, just what I happen to draw on my notes and for my tattoos. I can draw to an extent, but it takes me a while to get to a final product that I find acceptable. Usually I draw snails, like the one I sign all my posts with, on my friends papers during class. I have a tattoo of a butterfly and a turtle at the moment and I'm working on some wings and words.

Great blog Emily. If you're at all interested in hosting authors for book tours, you should check out Virtual Book Tour Cafe. I'm on tour with them now and you'd make a great host...if it's something that interests you. Either way, nice blog and I'll be back to visit!
