    {Review} Entangled by Nikki Jefford

    Entangled
    by Nikki Jefford
    Publisher:  Self-Published
    Series: Spellbound (#1)
    Pages:  149 PDF
Source: PDF courtesy of Nikki Jefford in exchange for a fair and honest review
Available as of February 20, 2012
    Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Two months after dying, seventeen-year-old witch Graylee Perez wakes up in her twin sister Charlene’s body.

Until Gray finds a way back inside her own body, she’s stuck being Charlene every twenty-four hours. Her sister has left precise instructions on how Gray should dress and behave. Looking like a prep isn’t half as bad as hanging out with Charlene’s snotty friends and gropey boyfriend.

The “normals” of McKinley High might be quick to write her behavior off as post-traumatic stress, but warlock Raj McKenna is the only person who suspects Gray has returned from the dead.

Now Gray has to solve the mystery of her death and resurrection and disentangle herself from Charlene’s body before she disappears for good.

    Rating:

    My Review:
Entangled has to be one of the best books about witches that I've ever read. Nikki Jefford created an enchanting plot and a fantastic set of characters.

What do you do when you wake up in your twin sisters body? First, you go to school like you normally would. Then, you get called insane. That's what happens when you get out of bed and think all is well in the world. Finally, you realize you only live every other day. Sharing a body isn't easy, especially when your being told who to hand out with and what to wear by the bodies owner.

I loved the characters because they were all so different. Graylee, the twin that dies and the main character, is sweet to everyone, kinda quiet, and tends to keeps to herself. Her sister, Charlene, is pure evil, but incredibly popular. Then you have Raj, the bad boy who likes Gray but can't admit it to her. Lastly, Nolan, the sweet boy who helped Gray unblock her powers.

How many different ways can I describe how much I loved this book. It was exciting, enticing and thrilling. I never wanted to put it down. The plot was unique and unlike anything I've read before. I was on the edge of my seat dying to know how it would end. But what I loved moved was that there wasn't a cliffhanger. It did however leave me wondering how the next book would pan out.

Overall, Entangled was an awesome read that left me wanting more. If you love books about withes and want something different and unique, give it a shot. It won't disappoint.

{Review & Giveaway} Blog Tour: The Wedding Cake Girl by Anne Pfeffer

Seventeen year old Alexandra spends so much time helping others realize their dreams that she never has time for her own. An expert ocean diver and reluctant maker of wedding cakes, she longs to leave roses and frosting behind to study oceanography. Alex’s mother won’t have it—needy and dependent, Mom can’t run the family wedding cake business on her own.

No matter what Alex does, things only get worse for her. When she risks her life to save a tourist while scuba diving and becomes the local hero, Mom's angry with Alex for going diving at all. Mom also discourages Alex's new friendship with the insanely wealthy Jeremy, a fun boy with a secret. Then, Alex's best friend, Zack, a hunky island guy, starts to take an interest in her as well. The problem is, he's dating another girl.

As Alex struggles to learn where she stands between her two difficult and confusing Prince Charmings, it occurs to her that maybe what she really needs is a Prince Charming for Mom. If she doesn't do something, she will make cakes all her life and die in her "Sue's Wedding Cakery" apron with a spatula in her hand.

    My Review:
This has to be one of the sweetest, most adorable books I've ever read. Anne Pfeffer did an amazing job depicting a girl who has known cake and failed relationships for all her life.

Alexandra, Alex, has only had one goal in mind, to get off Santa Rita Island. All her life she has spent her free time helping her mom make wedding cakes with no pay, just a roof over her head and the occasional debt. The summer before her senior year is supposed to be spent in a summer program for marine biology, but will she be able to go?

I don't really know where to begin. Maybe with how little Alex's mom seemed to really care about her, but grew to see things from her perspective. Or maybe I should start by saying the ending wrapped the story up in a nice, warm place. Either way, Anne Pfeffer did an outstanding job putting this story together. I fell in love with Alex and a few other characters that we are introduced to. I was giddy reading the last 10 pages of amazingness. The Wedding Cake Girl was cute, funny, down-to-Earth and surprised me a few times along the way.

Overall, The Wedding Cake Girl is the perfect read if you're looking for a quick read that leave your heart melting. A stunning YA Contemporary Romance.

Wishlist & Waiting on Wednesday #25

Wishlist Wednesday is hosted by Pen to Paper

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor

    Summary:
Around the world, black hand prints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.

When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

    Why it's on my wishlist...
I haven't read this yet because I haven't purchased a hardcover copy yet.
Do I want to read it, yes. I need to get on this...

    What's on your wishlist?

Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine

    This week I'm waiting for.....

    by Colleen Clayton

To Be Released on October 9, 2012

    Summary:
How can you talk about something you can’t remember?

Before the ski trip, sixteen-year-old Cassidy “Sid” Murphy was a cheerleader (at the bottom of the pyramid, but still...), a straight-A student, and a member of a solid trio of best friends. When she ends up on a ski lift next to handsome local college boy, Dax Windsor, she’s thrilled; but Dax takes everything from Sid—including a lock of her perfect red curls—and she can’t remember any of it.

Back home and unable to relate to her old friends, Sid drops her college prep classes and takes up residence in the A/V room with only Corey “The Living Stoner” Livingston for company. But as she gets to know Corey (slacker, baker, total dreamboat), Sid finds someone who truly makes her happy. Now, if she can just shake the nightmares and those few extra pounds, everything will be perfect... or so she thinks.

    Why I'm waiting:
First of all, I have this on pre-order because I'm dying to read it. Second, I love contemporaries and this one sounds like it's going to be awesome. It helps that I've seen nothing but glowing reviews. I can't wait to get lost in this one!

    What are you waiting for?

{Review} 52 Reasons to Hate My Father by Jessica Brody

52 Reasons to Hate My Father

Being America’s favorite heiress is a dirty job, but someone’s gotta do it.

Lexington Larrabee has never to work a day in her life. After all, she’s the heiress to the multi-billion-dollar Larrabee Media empire. And heiresses are not supposed to work. But then again, they’re not supposed to crash brand new Mercedes convertibles into convenience stores on Sunset Blvd either.

Which is why, on Lexi’s eighteen birthday, her ever-absent, tycoon father decides to take a more proactive approach to her wayward life. Every week for the next year, she will have to take on a different low-wage job if she ever wants to receive her beloved trust fund. But if there’s anything worse than working as a maid, a dishwasher, and a fast-food restaurant employee, it’s dealing with Luke, the arrogant, albeit moderately attractive, college intern her father has assigned to keep tabs on her.

In a hilarious “comedy of heiress” about family, forgiveness, good intentions, and best of all, second chances, Lexi learns that love can be unconditional, money can be immaterial, and, regardless of age, everyone needs a little saving. And although she might have 52 reasons to hate her father, she only needs one reason to love him.

    Rating:

    My Review:
It took a while to get into, but 52 Reasons to Hate My Father turned out to be an amazing read. Jessica Brody knows how to end a book with a bang.

Lexington Larrabee is a spoiled, selfish, heiress who wouldn't know work if it hit her over the head. She knows how to drink, drive, and have a good time, but earning the money she spends is foreign to her.

Starting 52 Reasons to Hate My Father took some time. I wasn't a fan of Lexi's and her personality was off-putting, but expected of an eighteen year old who has never earned one thing she owns. I pushed through my negative feeling toward her and found a heartwarming surprise half-way through. Lexi's journey pulls her from her self-absorbed world into a world where she learns how those less fortunate live. That everything isn't just handed to everyone. She sees their hardships and begins to become the person her father would be proud of.

I loved reading 52 Reasons to Hate My Father because you get to see such an extreme change in attitude. The people Lexi meets leave an impression and she becomes more worldly and less selfish. I loved seeing her evolve.

52 Reasons to Hate My Father was an exceptionally well written novel that shows how much a person can change in such a short period of time. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a coming of age novel that leaves you happily surprised in the end.

    This Weeks Question:
What hyped up book do you think was not
    worth all the talk?

While there isn't a super hyped up book that I haven't liked (yet!),
there is one book that got a bit of hype that I didn't enjoy as much as I hoped I would...

I loved this cover and the premise of the story sounded like something I would enjoy.
However, it wasn't as good as it sounded. I don't enjoy reading a book when
I know how it's going to end when I'm barely 1/3 of the way in. I haven't
posted my review yet, however it will be up soon.

    Update:
So apparently the question changed since I made this post last night and sometime today, so...
New Q: What hyped up book was worth all the fuss?

This one is so easy for me right now...

Both The Soul Screamers & Morganville Vampire Series have captured my heart.
I have the next couple of books in each series sitting on my shelf to read.
Oh if only I didn't have to write my thesis these books would be read in no time...

What hyped up book wasn't worth it for you?
    What book was?

{Review} Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

    Anna and the French Kiss
    by Stephanie Perkins
    Publisher:  Dutton
    Pages:  372
    Source:  Purchased
Available as of December 2, 2011
    Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Fishpond
    The Book Depository | Books-A-Million

Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris - until she meets Etienne St. Clair: perfect, Parisian (and English and American, which makes for a swoon-worthy accent), and utterly irresistible. The only problem is that he's taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her almost-relationship back home. As winter melts into spring, will a year of romantic near - misses end with the French kiss Anna - and readers - have long awaited?

    Rating:

    My Review:
Amazing. Absolutely amazing. I was at Stephanie Perkins mercy after reading page one. Anna and the French Kiss was witty and funny and I loved every minute I spent reading. I was so in love that I stayed up reading until 6am because I couldn't put it down.

Anna is sent to Paris for her senior year of high school. Being pulled from one school and put into another school is hard, but it's even harder when that school is in a different country. After her parents leave her that first night, she cries, missing home and realizing that she's on her own now. Only, she isn't on her own. The girl next door, Meredith, hears her crying and offers her an easy friendship. Then she meets him: Etienne St. Clair.

I hate that I waited so long to read Anna and the French Kiss. It was so well-written and I fell in love with Anna, Etienne, and the story. I found myself laughing frequently and I actually sat the on the edge of my seat waiting to see how it would end. I was enthralled and could barely put it down when my eyes were begging for sleep. The setting was perfect and The City of Lights was described in such amazing detail.

Anna is so sweet and funny. She reminded me of my best friend. Etienne is this dreamy, swoon worthy American with a French name and an English accent. He is sweet and down-to-earth. I'm so in love with them both.

Overall, I'm so upset with myself for not reading Anna and the French Kiss sooner. It pulled at my heart and it is the perfect read if you need your spirits lifted. Amazing. I highly recommend this book!
