Something New To Try: Ebates

Hey everyone!

I'm not sure how much you shop online, but I do it all the time.
Then I found Ebates.com.
They give you a percentage of your purchase back and have thousands of online stores to choose from.
I have been a member since December of 2010 and have gotten over $170 back by clicking through them to my stores.

You are probably wondering why I'm sharing this tid bit.
Well, I buy all my books online because it is less expensive to buy a hardcover
($17 in-store vs.$12 online).

I just made a purchase through Books-A-Million and got 3% of my money back.
You are probably thinking "Only 3%?"  Over time it adds up.
Ebates does a daily double where they select one store and double the percentage.
I got 12% back from Under Armour one day.
Around the holidays its even better because they double, or even triple, select stores for an extended period of time.  Barnes & Noble was 8% back throughout December 2011.
I scored big!!

This Weeks Question:
Do you read one book at a time or do you switch back and forth between two or more?

I've tried reading more than one book at a time and I find that I tend to get the details mixed up.  That being said, I only read one book at a time so I can fully immerse myself in the story.

Do you read one book at a time or more?

My Review:
This book has been siting on my to be read list since the day it was released, but I could never find it in store.  It took me ordering it online from a website I had never heard of to get this book and I'm thrilled I finally got to read this amazing story.  Cat Clarke did a wonderful job crafting a novel full of suspense that kept me turning the pages.

Grace is a seventeen year old girl who has ended up in a very sterile looking room. She has no idea how she got there.  All she remembers is preparing for her suicide and going to the park.  Her plan fails when she sees a guy on the swings and walks over, planning to get him to leave as quickly as possible.  She begins talking to him and soon finds herself not wanting him to go.  Then it all gets hazy. She wakes up locked in the white room with a comfy bed, a desk with forty-seven pens and three reams of paper, a chair, and a bathroom.  The guy from the swing is there, holding her captive but always bringing her three square meals a day.  He never lets on to the purpose of her being there or if she will ever leave.

The main characters played off each other well and I felt as if I was right there looking from the outside in.  Grace is outgoing, reckless, persuasive, and a flirt. She overcomes a lot throughout the novel when she finally begins to understand the purpose of the white room.  Sal is the ultimate best friend.  She cares so much for Grace and is always there when she needs her, but she is unwilling to give her details on some of the most important things in her own life which frustrates Grace more than anything else ever has.  Nat, Grace's boyfriend, is accepting, kind and caring even after he learns her darkest secrets.  The boy on the swings, Ethan, isn't very talkative, but is always pushing Grace to understand even though she has no clue what he is talking about.

Entangled was a great read!  What I liked most was the set up of the book.  It is kind of written like journal entries, but flashes between the white room and her past.  I also enjoyed the amount of internal dialogue.  It helped to understand how Grace felt about the events of her life that she is trying desperately to forget.

The suspense was amazing and once I got about half of the way through, pieces of the puzzle started falling into place.  I began making guesses about how the book would end.  Most of my assumptions were correct, but I liked how the story began to unfold at an even quicker pace at the end.  It was like getting to the point in a race where you can begin to see the finish line up ahead and you run faster and faster until you blaze across the line and try to catch your breath.  I actually started pulling the book closer to my face.

There was mild profanity throughout the book with some talk of issues such as suicide and self-mutilation.  Overall, this was an amazing read and I recommend Entangled to anyone who wants to dive into a book that will leave you dying to know what happens next.

This book satisfies one of my books for the 2012 Completely Contemp Challenge.

Wishlist Wednesday #6

Wishlist Wednesday is hosted by Pen to Paper

Heist Society by Ally Carter

Summary:
When Katarina Bishop was three, her parents took her on a trip to the Louvre…to case it. For her seventh birthday, Katarina and her Uncle Eddie traveled to Austria…to steal the crown jewels. When Kat turned fifteen, she planned a con of her own—scamming her way into the best boarding school in the country, determined to leave the family business behind. Unfortunately, leaving “the life” for a normal life proves harder than she’d expected.

Soon, Kat's friend and former co-conspirator, Hale, appears out of nowhere to bring Kat back into the world she tried so hard to escape. But he has a good reason: a powerful mobster has been robbed of his priceless art collection and wants to retrieve it. Only a master thief could have pulled this job, and Kat's father isn't just on the suspect list, he is the list. Caught between Interpol and a far more deadly enemy, Kat’s dad needs her help.

For Kat, there is only one solution: track down the paintings and steal them back. So what if it's a spectacularly impossible job? She's got two weeks, a teenage crew, and hopefully just enough talent to pull off the biggest heist in her family's history--and, with any luck, steal her life back along the way.

Why it's on my wishlist...
I have read and enjoyed the Gallagher Girls series and if this series has any of the same elements, I will be in love...again.  That being said, I need to get this as soon as my pile of books dwindles just a little.

What are you wishing for?

Kierce has a rule for everything, not to mention his whole future planned out. Jay has bad grades, no plans, and could care less. As for Danny, he’s stuck somewhere in the middle and can’t stop stressing out about it. His dad keeps nagging him about his post-high school plans, his friends won’t stop bugging him about girls, and a run-in with the cops means he has to to get a summer job – about the last thing he had planned. Worst of all, the secret he’s been keeping for years is threatening to spill out into the open.

Just when he’s beginning to wonder how he’ll get through the summer, let alone survive another year in Deep Cove, Danny meets Lisa Walsh. Lisa is dynamic, beautiful, and different from any girl he’s ever known. She’s also from New York City, which is about as far from Deep Cove as the dark side of the moon. For the first time in a while, things begin to look like they might turn out all right after all – that is, if friends, family, and reality don’t get in the way.

My Review:
I was intrigued after reading the summary, but it doesn't do the book justice. From page one I was swept into Danny's world.  Tom Ryan wrote a book that I will read over and over again.

Danny has just finished his junior year of high school and he isn't sure who he really is or what he wants to do with his life.  It takes getting busted by the cops and forced into a summer job he didn't really want to push him to figure it out. He ignores his two best friends, Kierce and Jay, for the first few weeks of summer because of a girl, Lisa.  She is energetic, beautiful, and easy going.  With his reluctance, she gets him to dance, let loose, and have a little fun, something Danny doesn't do well on his own.  Kierce is pushy and thinks the world of himself. Jay is the friend everyone needs.  He is relaxed, easy to get along with, and accepting.

What I loved most about this book was Danny's little sister Alma.  She is thirteen, loves classic movies, and she attempts to lighten the mood when things get tense.  I found myself laughing throughout the book whenever she would make a reference to a movie. Another thing I liked was Kierce's rules.  The book is littered with them.  I would find myself rereading the rules because they were either true for most people I know or they were so ridiculous that I thought maybe I should add this to my list.  For instance, "Rule Two:  If you want to get rich, you've got to do well in school.  Study as hard as you party."  If you know where I go to college, then you know I attend the #1 party school in the US.  This rule applies to everyone on campus.

Overall, this book was phenomenal and I recommend it to everyone.  It was amazing and held some life lessons that not every one achieves.  Acceptance being the number one lesson on that list.
