Fall under the spell of Wake—the first book in an achingly beautiful new series by celebrated author Amanda Hocking—and lose yourself to the Watersong.

Gorgeous. Fearless. Dangerous. They're the kind of girls you envy; the kind of girls you want to hate. Strangers in town for the summer, Penn, Lexi and Thea have caught everyone's attention—but it’s Gemma who’s attracted theirs. She’s the one they’ve chosen to be part of their group.

Gemma seems to have it all—she’s carefree, pretty, and falling in love with Alex, the boy next door. He’s always been just a friend, but this summer they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, and now there’s no going back. Then one night, Gemma’s ordinary life changes forever. She’s taking a late night swim under the stars when she finds Penn, Lexi and Thea partying on the cove. They invite her to join them, and the next morning she wakes up on the beach feeling groggy and sick, knowing something is different.

Suddenly Gemma is stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. But her new powers come with a terrifying price. And as she uncovers the truth, she’s is forced to choose between staying with those she loves—or entering a new world brimming with dark hungers and unimaginable secrets.

My Review:
First, I LOVE Amanda Hocking! All of her books are wonderful and if you haven't read them, you should. Wake is by far my favorite. She created a mythical world that gripped me from page one.

Gemma is the swim team star. She practices daily and heads to the bay at night for a relaxing swim. Her sister, Harper, doesn't like when she goes for her night swims, but their dad, Brian, is okay with it as long as she's back by curfew. One missed curfew throws Gemma's life out of control. What will she choose in the end? Life or death?

When I'd heard Amanda Hocking had a new book coming out I started jumping up and down. Wake didn't disappoint. While the ending was a tiny bit sad, I knew it wasn't the end and a lot could happen in the next book, Lullaby. Every detail leading to the end was awesome. I was hooked an never wanted to put the book down. I loved that we got insight into Harper's life also. For years she has taken the role as "mom" and she finally begins to live a little.

Overall, Wake was everything I hoped it would be and more. It was exciting and kept me dying to know what would happen next. If you love books with mythology and paranormal characters, you will probably enjoy this one.

I love Amanda Hocking! Especially the My Blood Approves series. I've had Wake on my shelf for a while but haven't picked it up because I read several lukewarm reviews. Now that you said it's your favorite one, I'm feeling inspired to read it.

Wake is the only book of Amanda Hockings that I have read. Sadly, I didn't enjoy it like you did and that is definitely disappointing. I will check out your review of Lullaby to see what you thought of it. Maybe I will decide to continue with the series and see if I can enjoy it better with book 2
